Lorelei Gibson, Robert Lincoln – East Area – May 2019
Robert Lincoln was training Lorelei Gibson on the radar position at CRIBB (81) on May 16, 2019. NUS991 reported moderate to severe turbulence while climbing from 10,000’-15,000’ over Lake Michigan. Ms. Gibson clarified the severe turbulence report with the pilot and inquired if the pilot required any assistance. She immediately advised the C90 East Departure controller as the turbulence was within C90 airspace, and issued this necessary PIREP information to several ORD and MDW departures subsequent to this report. Additionally, Ms. Gibson issued depicted weather to appropriate aircraft on the east side of the sector in a timely manner and handled deviation requests and coordinated with the receiving positions all while handling a “normal” departure push without missing a beat. Ms. Gibson deserves recognition for her exemplary response to a hazardous weather encounter while continuing to provide professional, safe and efficient ATC operations to the rest of her aircraft.
