Madeline Snively – Southeast Area – May 2019
Madeline Snively was working the 33 radar position on May 19th 2019. During this session she advised all aircraft on initial call to expect continuous light chop at all altitudes between FL350 to FL450, including notification to N37LP. She broadcast information about an AIRMET for turbulence, three Convective SIGMETS, and a Center Weather Advisory for the vicinity. CGLMI was queried for flight conditions by Madeline when reaching assigned altitude of FL400, and the pilots reported light chop. N37LP stated that they “need to descend down to 400.”Madeline immediately issued the descent clearance and professionally asked the pilots of the reason. N37LP reported moderate to severe turbulence at FL430. Madeline advised the pilots of pertinent PIREPs in that area to best inform them of what to expect ahead. Madeline asked the appropriate questions to ensure the aircraft and passengers were safe. She then broadcast the urgent PIREP to all aircraft on frequency and coordinated with the surrounding sectors to issue the severe turbulence PIREP. This level of service and communication is an example of an engaged, professional, and thorough Air Traffic Control Specialist.
